Technical Resources
The work of the WIC is being supported by the following technical resources:
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ)
The Upper Granite Creek Watershed Improvement project is funded through ADEQ’s Targeted Watershed Improvement Grant Program. ADEQ also provides guidance and technical support on this project.
Non-Point Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO)
The goal of the University of Arizona’s Non-point Education for Municipal Officials (NEMO) program is to educate land use decision makers to make choices and take actions that will lessen non-point source pollution and protect natural resources. NEMO provides technical support to the Watershed Improvement Council through the use of geo-spatial technology to identify likely pollution sources and prioritize monitoring locations; analysis of water quality monitoring and physical watershed survey data; and education and training for the council and community volunteers.
Master Watershed Steward Program (MWS)
The University of Arizona’s Master Watershed Steward (MWS) program educates and trains citizens across the state of Arizona to serve as volunteers in the protection, restoration, monitoring, and conservation of their water and watersheds. The MWS program supports the Watershed Improvement Council by providing education and training to the community volunteers who will be conducting water quality monitoring and physical surveys of the Upper Granite Creek Watershed.
