Creek Crew
The Creek Crew is comprised of citizen volunteers who care for our local waterways. The Creek Crew assists the Watershed Improvement Council through the collection of physical and chemical data that helps the council to identify the origins of water quality problems. This data is integral to Watershed Improvement Planning; recommendations in the plan will be based on the data collected by the Creek Crew.
Training
On March 27, 2010, 31 Creek Crew volunteers and 4 WIC members turned out to survey our watershed for potential pollution sources. From 8 a.m. to noon, volunteers attended training sessions about the Watershed Improvement Planning project, stream/riparian functions, non-point source pollution, field datasheets and protocols. NEMO staff were present to train volunteers in the use of GPS units. After lunch, volunteers split up into groups of 2-3 people to walk their assigned stream segments. At the end of the day, volunteers covered just over 10 miles of creeks.
