Volunteer to explore your creeks--3/27

Prescott Creeks and the Watershed Improvement Council are looking for volunteers to join the Creek Crew and participate in a field survey of our local creeks. Volunteers will be the "boots on the ground" for the Watershed Improvement Planning project to improve the water quality in our local waterways.

The field survey will take place on Saturday, March 27th from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will be held at Prescott College Chapel, 220 Grove Ave, Prescott, AZ.  The Chapel is a two-story building behind the bookstore that opens to the alley parallel to Garden St. and Grove Ave. (blocked off to vehicular traffic) and faces the Crossroads Center and Library. It is Building 204 on the campus map.

The morning training topics will include assessing their watershed, field protocols, data sheets, and use of GPS units. After lunch, volunteers will walk one-mile segments of the creeks in the watershed to gather relevant watershed condition information, including information on the riparian buffer (streamside vegetation), infrastructure (pipes, ditches, and culverts), as well as potential sources of water quality problems.

Volunteers should be in good physical condition, able to walk on rough terrain, and willing to walk up to 5 miles.

Get outside. Explore your local creeks. And help improve local water quality!

To join in the fun, RSVP by email or by phone: 928-445-5669. Limited number of spots available.
