Jeff Witham

GIS Programmer Analyst |
Yavapai County
Jeff spent his early years in a small town in Massachusetts, and at age 14, his family moved to Orange County, California. He attended the University of California at Irvine where he earned a B.S. in Information and Computer Science. He began his career as a software engineer for Baxter Healthcare in Irvine. After 6 years, he left to pursue other interests. Jeff became involved with community theater and managed a street hockey league for 7 years. He wanted to return to the computer field, so he enrolled in courses at Cypress Community College, earning certificates in both Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Visual Basic. GIS appealed to him because it incorporated his interests in geography and maps with programming. While receiving certification, he began working as a GIS Intern for the City of Carson, California. Jeff moved to Prescott in 2003 for his current position with Yavapai County. As a GIS Programmer Analyst, Jeff uses GIS software to produce maps, perform spatial analyses, and create (through programming) GIS applications used by other County departments. Jeff provided mapping, boundary creation, and hazard assessment support to the Prescott Communities Wildfire Protection Plan, a county-wide plan to protect communities from wildfire. Jeff also teaches part-time at Yavapai College. He taught an introductory GIS class in the fall of 2008 and is currently teaching a GED class. Additionally, from 2005 to 2008, he taught a GIS module for the Wildland Fire Risk and Hazard Severity Assessment class at the annual Arizona Wildfire Academy. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, tennis, board games, and reading.
